Okna Tsahan Zam is a master of the höömii chanting that characterises the Mongols from Russia's Kalmykia steppes situated between the Black and Caspian Seas. This unique style of throat singing has helped in reviving the oral traditions of the Djangar and is linked to shamanic practices that lead followers into deep trances. Zam, an admirer of Pink Floyd, has modernised this ancient repertoire by allying himself with the French guitarist Claude Samard, a master of studio electronics.
